We are very happy to report that many SGI youth from CT and the East territory attended the Global Zero Summit, which was held at Yale University this past weekend. Global Zero is an international organization committed to reducing the nuclear stock pile in the world to Zero, which directly aligns with President Toda’s declaration for the abolition of all Nuclear weapons from this earth.
It was an extremely informative summit for all of us, with eminent speakers from politics, UN and many other socio-political organizations. This summit was also attended by students from as far as Australia and Pakistan who are really committed to this cause. This summit gave SGI youth a unique opportunity to interact with many youth who share a common goal and also to share Daisaku Ikeda’s teachings and peace proposals with many others at the conference. This marked an important step for SGI youth to realize President Toda’s vision of a nuclear free world.
SGI students who came from DC, New York, Philadelphia, Boston and also Netherlands, made a bold statement of unity and commitment to humanity, often bringing attention to the moral and humanistic aspects of nuclear proliferation. We shared Sensei’s peace proposals with many others at the conference. We are very proud to be part of such a sincere and committed group of individuals. It was an absolutely inspiring weekend, with a lot to learn and share and we hope to participate in many such events in the future.
Thank you all for your continued support of the youth division as we engage in many such dialogues and events!
Please enjoy the attached photo, there were 20 of us, all are not in the picture though!

YWD Celebration in East Rock Park! July 24, 2011
Posted by sgict in : Young Women, Youth Division , add a commentReport from Sae Chonabayashi:
We had a wonderful YWD Celebration yesterday. Total of 18 YWD came, and we went to East Rock Park and had a picnic on the top of the mountain. Our daimoku worked!!!! for the weather!!!! From 10am – 12pm we had such a nice breath of air helping all of us not to get too hot! It was amazing!
After introducing each other, Caroline Reid nicely did an introduction to Buddhism, followed by a significant of YWD/ Ikeda Kayo kai by Kamayani Sharma. After that, We did a fun game together for ice breaker – Apples to Apples! We ate, chatted to each other and had a open mic led by Kayoko Tsujimoto where a few YWDs shared their struggles and determinations. At the end, each of us wrote a determination to President Ikeda and I will put them into an Album with the attached picture and send it to Sensei to report.

There have been a number of inquiries about the Activity Center and 28 April. I am delighted to announce that the Activity Center will, in fact, be open for gongyo and diamoku. The hours will be 7:00–8:30 PM. All members and guests are invited to participate!
In 1253 on 28 April, Nichiren Daishonin proclaimed his teaching of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. Today, due to the efforts of the SGI members united with Sensei, this teaching of hope, courage, compassion and empowerment has spread to over 190 countries and territories.
Those who wish to make Contributions for the May Commemorative Contribution activity may do so. And, those who wish to drop off payments for the Youth Festival may do so as well.
“How incredible it is to chant this wonderful daimoku each day! Nichiren Daishonin writes, “There is no greater happiness for human beings than chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. The sutra [Lotus Sutra] says, ?The people there [in my land] are happy and at ease”
- Daisaku Ikeda (For Today and Tomorrow, April, 28)
