SUNRISE

Nothing is more precious than  peace. Nothing brings more happiness. Peace is the most basic starting point for  the advancement of humankind.

October 2, 1960. Shin’ichi  Yamamoto was 32 years old. With a passionate resolve for peace burning in his  heart, he set out on a worldwide journey. Only five months had passed since he  was inaugurated as the third president of the Soka Gakkai.

On this day, Tokyo was blessed  with crystal-clear skies and fresh autumn air. Members had been converging on  Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport since early that morning, and by around  9:30 the observation deck was packed with people. They had come to see their  president, Shin’ichi Yamamoto, off on his first visit overseas.
